Parents, We have just received some very exciting news. School Food and Nutrition Services (SFNS) is happy to announce that USDA has approved SFNS to serve free lunches to all students effective Tuesday, September 8. The USDA is allowing free meals to all children even if they do not qualify for free and reduced-price meals. The program will expire on Thursday, December 31, or until funds are depleted. School Food and Nutrition Services ensures you that every child will continue to have access to safe, nutritious school meals. This announcement means that every child at SMM, grades PK3 - 7th grade, is able to receive a free lunch, even if your child has never purchased a lunch from the cafeteria prior to this announcement. There is nothing required of you to receive this service. If you would like for your child to receive the free lunch, all you need to do is have your child tell their teacher of their lunch choice in the morning, sandwich or hot lunch choice. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding the free lunch. The free lunch program will begin next Tuesday, September 8th. I hope that many of you take advantage of this free lunch opportunity.
